PARTIAL / CAST PARTIAL DENTURES

PARTIAL / CAST PARTIAL DENTURES

Partial dentures are for patients who are missing one or more teeth but still have existing teeth in the mouth.
There are three types of partial dentures: acrylic base with metal wires for retention, cast (chromium cobalt) partials and flexible partials, made of thermoplastic acrylic. All partials are designed to be removed and contribute to a healthy oral environment. They do not harm the natural teeth and prevent them from shifting into the spaces left by the loss of natural teeth.

Partially missing teeth can be restored back a full dentition with this treatment. This custom procedure can be supported by the existing teeth, tissue surfaces or both. Missing teeth can be an eyesore, especially for individuals who are self conscious. As well, they can cause problems for other existing teeth causing them to fall out of position, food traps or even compromise facial support. Tooth loss precipitate bone loss and can pose a problem to future prosthetics treatments.

Acrylic Partial Denture

This type of denture may be used as a transitional or temporary replacement of missing teeth. They are made of an acrylic base and may have metal clasp to hold on to any existing teeth to optimize retention. This can also be a cheaper solution for some patients.

Cast metal/acrylic (Cast Partial) Dentures

This is a more rigid and permanent style of denture. The metal made out of chromium cobalt or titanium (both very light, bio-compatible metal) will hold on to the teeth and reinforce the base acrylic. The metal will not cause damage to any existing teeth.

Flexible Acrylic Dentures

Flexible thermoplastics is a new material on the market that has an advantage of flexibility compared to conventional acrylics. The clasp are as well the same material and can be made in a clear color to cosmetically hide any evidence of a denture. However, this treatment may not be suitable for all patients.
